Tramway Oval Greater
Sydney Parklands
Our team assess Tramway Oval (in front of the SCG) for turf health and playing conditions throughout the year. Bi-monthly assessment reports provide invaluable data and detailed soil and turf health conditions leading to recommendations aimed at helping make informed decisions regarding nutritional programming and cultural practices.
These assessments aim to monitor and measure the condition of the sportsturf assets to inform maintenance and player safety requirements.
The main objectives are to:
• Establish an understanding of the condition of the fields and any seasonal variations.
• Identify issues that require rectification via turf management activities.
• Provide information to support a risk management strategy regarding the safety conditions of the fields.
The following assessments are commonly undertaken on the field:
• Clegg Hammer assessments to determine whether surface hardness as experienced by users, is within AFL guidelines.
• Turf and weed species composition as well as disease and insect incidence.
• Turf density to identify the extent of either wear or poor turf quality.
• Root and thatch depth to inform turf and soil management requirements.
• Rotational traction strength is determined to assess the stability of the turf surface.
• Soil moisture uniformity is evaluated to determine its effect on the turf and surface performance.
• Drone imagery taken, using NDVI to highlight areas of turf stress.
